MARK PUNAKIRRI

Mark punakirri is a decendant of the Ngiyaampaa tribe of the Wangaapuwan clan from the Cobar area of Central Western NSW. Mark's inner connection with his tribal heritage creates in him an artistic talent that has rarely been seen on a national and international leve. His colours, texture and visual precision of the Ngiyaampaa nation are stunning and his personal artistic expressions of the natural earth tones and patterns in his works of art of the land formations are unique.

Ngiyaampaa Wangaapuwan Aboriginal art is known to be one of the oldest Aboriginal art styles in NSW and is still seen on the rocks and cave walls around the Mount Grenfell, Cobar area and places with Ngiyaampaa country.

Traditionally a combination of the use of red, yellow, white and black natural earth pigments and ochres were applied in layers by finger, brush stick and hand dabbing, leaving a thick textured effect using lineal lines and background earth colours. Mark uses the same thick textured hand dabbing technique with acrylics onto linen.

mark express his inner connection with the 'Eagle Hawk' in his Ngiyaampaa claypan drought series by incorporating fine red and white dotwork, personally expressed as the eye of Maliyan the Eagle Hawk. This is as seen from an aerial perspective in many of his claypan works.

Mark is also an established singer and guitar player.
